James Ellis combines a depth of knowledge of institutional investing with experienced committee facilitation to deliver skillfully crafted investment strategies while empowering committee members by expanding their knowledge base and decision-making acumen.
James consults to corporate and not-for-profit organizations in Arnerich Massena’s institutional client group, guiding his clients in meeting ther fiduciary duties while building long-term strategies that will meet their strategic goals. His experience spans foundations and endowments, healthcare institutions, corporate and non-profit defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and Taft-Hartley plans.
With investment experience spanning more than 21 years, James also served as director of institutional consulting for Buck Consultants, as vice president of the institutional services group for The Commerce Trust Company, as vice president and consultant relationship manager for Scout Investments, and as consultant for Hammond Associates (now Mercer).
James Ellis earned his B.A. in economics from the University of Georgia. He carries the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and served the St. Louis CFA Society as president, treasurer, director, and chairman of programming committee between the years of 2006-2011. He is a past member of the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives (AIMSE), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Investment Management Institute (IMI), and the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA). James is a current member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Portland.
With a deep level of intellectual curiosity, James has always had a passion for the dynamic nature of financial markets. He combines this curiosity with the wisdom gained from extensive travel and living in various different regions of the country.
